CPA for Ohio Taxpayers: State, Municipal and School District Filings

Ohio taxes you in more places than almost any other state. There is the state return, then roughly 600 municipalities that levy their own income tax, most collected by RITA or CCA and plenty administered by the city itself, and a couple of hundred school districts with a separate levy on top. Work from home two days a week, move across a county line, or hire someone in the next town over, and the list of returns you owe changes.

Our office is in Columbus, so much of the work is in Franklin County and the suburbs around it. It does not require sitting in the same room. We file for any Ohio municipality and school district, wherever you live or work, and we take clients in other states routinely. We keep track of which jurisdictions you owe, file the municipal and school district returns alongside the federal and state ones, and claim the credit for tax paid to your work city before it goes unused.

Who we serve

  • Central Ohio residents and businesses: Columbus, Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, Grove City and the rest of Franklin County, the work we do most and closest to home
  • Remote and hybrid workers: Days split between a home office in one city and an employer in another, which quietly creates two municipal returns and a credit that has to be claimed to be worth anything
  • Businesses operating in more than one city: Withholding, net profit returns, and the apportionment that decides how much each municipality gets
  • Owners who moved mid-year: Part-year municipal residency, which rarely lines up neatly with the calendar or with where the mail goes
  • Out-of-state clients with Ohio income: Rental property, a partnership interest or a former employer, still creating an Ohio filing obligation after you have left

How we help

  • Ohio individual and school district returns: The IT 1040 and SD 100 prepared together, with residency and credits reconciled rather than assumed
  • Municipal income tax: RITA, CCA and self-administered cities, including the credit for tax paid to the city where you work
  • Business net profit returns: Municipal net profit filings and the apportionment behind them, for companies working in more than one jurisdiction
  • Employer withholding across cities: Setting up and reviewing withholding when employees work in more than one municipality, including people who cross a city line only occasionally
  • Notices from Ohio, RITA and CCA: Reading what the letter asks for and answering it before an assessment becomes final

If you are not certain which cities you owe, and most people are not, that is usually the first thing worth sorting out. Paying your taxes has the current payment links for the IRS, the Ohio Department of Taxation, RITA, CCA and the City of Columbus.
